Gouache and tempera are wonderful to work with because the colours have a clarity and light. While opaque to some degree, they can also show the history of the brush marks and the flow of the paint, keeping the energy of what lies beneath. The paint dries very quickly, often forcing the hand to act more spontaneously - a potent source of vitality in my work.
