Suzanne Klassen is a Vancouver-based artist working primarily across painting, drawing, and photography.
Her work is characterized by a direct and intimate approach, often presenting subjects with a sense of immediacy. Working between observation and invention, she brings faces, figures, and landscapes into view with a deliberate economy, holding them in a state that resists fixed interpretation.

In a culture shaped by speed and image saturation, this approach creates space for a different kind of encounter—one that is quieter, less mediated, and grounded in presence rather than interpretation.

At times, this sensibility has extended into object-based projects, installation and performance, though her current focus remains on image-based work.

Klassen graduated from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 1986. Alongside her studio practice, she has had a long career in community service and engagement, maintaining an ongoing commitment to making work.
