I always thought "When I am old I will draw all day". Well, here we are.
Pencil on paper holds a certain purity, you see both the hand and the subject, right there. I don't like precious-ness in my work, and consider mark making as much as the subject. I'm always trying to challenge ideas, approaches and traditions that get internalized, frequently asking my bird, "Steve, what exactly are we doing here?", and he never says anything.
